January 2009
Jan. 2 January is Glaucoma Awareness Month

Glaucoma is the leading cause of preventable blindness. Everyone, from infants to seniors is vulnerable. Moreover, among African-American and Hispanic populations, glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness.

We offer several screening tests to aid in the early detection of glaucoma, including:

  • Optomap Retinal Exam: offers enhanced digital photography of the back of the eye and the ability to review photos side-by-side for more subtle changes
  • GDx: measures the nerve fibers in the back of the eye to help diagnose glaucoma earlier
  • Visual field: to test a patients peripheral vision
  • IOP (intraocular pressure) check

In addition, our doctors have a good relationship with local ophthalmologists and co-manage patients with them.
